25 years ago - 18 May 1988 - North Island Road trip - Palmerston North to Gisborne

Fletcher ZK-DMU was at Dannevirke
as was Fieldair's Fletcher ZK-EMV at Dannevirke...
...while a surprise at Dannevirke was Bell Jetranger ZK-HZE
A little further up the road at Waipukurau was Eastland Contracts' Cessna 188 Agwagon ZK-CSD (above) and Cessna 172 ZK-DAY (below).

At Hastings' Bridge Pa aerodrome Cessna 180 was in for maintenance...
as were Langslow Aviation's Fletcher ZK-CBG...
...Fletcher ZK-CMG...
and Astro Air's Cessna 188 Agwagon ZK-CQX.

Down at the pumps was Robinson R22 ZK-HBG...

...while parked outside the Aero Club was N B Macdonald Services' Piper Seneca ZK-MSL. There is a brief post on the courier run this Seneca was used on at http://3rdlevelnz.blogspot.co.nz/2011/01/n-b-macdonald-services.html
At Wairoa Cookson Airspread's Fletcher ZK-DHD wasn't working...
nor was the gate guardian at Gisborne, Lockheed Lodestar ZK-BUV
Also at Gisborne were Farmers Air's Fletchers ZK-CMY and ZK-EMB...

as were Fieldair's Fletchers ZK-CRF and ZK-EUH

Also not flying were Air Gisborne's Cessna 172 ZK-DXF with a Timberlands logo (who I was working for at the time) and Grumman American AA-5 Traveler ZK-JER

  1. It is really amazing to see the number of agricultural aircraft that were around in those days.
    Times have changed.
It is now possible to tour airfields for days and be lucky to see just one Fletcher.

  2. Great to see CBG - I have the mortal remains of her stored for eventual restoration. Another great shot to add to the archive!
